The Animal Empowerment Program
Goats, sheep, and chickens — given to widows' groups, with the training to build a living.
In the Animal Empowerment Program, we teach widows animal husbandry. With this skill, a woman can start her own business, providing a living for herself and her children.
A widows' group receives 2 goats and 2 sheep. The group is required to increase the herd to 10 before they may sell any stock. Goats must be tended, but they forage off the land.
Alternatively, we provide chicks to some groups — along with food, feeders, and all the equipment needed to start a chicken breeding setup for eggs or meat. We furnish everything necessary to bring the chickens to market. The group is then responsible for continuing the project with the money made.
In all our programs, we teach the groups how to manage their earnings — opening a bank account, managing expenses, and planning for the future.
